dotConnect for PostgreSQL Documentation
Devart.Data.PostgreSql Namespace / PgSqlConnection Class / Open Method
Example

Open Method (PgSqlConnection)
Opens a PostgreSQL connection with the property settings specified by the ConnectionString.
Syntax
'Declaration

Public Overrides Sub Open()

Remarks
The PgSqlConnection draws an open connection from the connection pool if one is available. Otherwise, it establishes a new connection to the data source.

Note: If the PgSqlConnection goes out of scope, the connection it represents does not close automatically. Therefore, you must explicitly close the connection by calling Close.

Opening an open connection does nothing.

Example
The following example creates a PgSqlConnection, opens it, displays some of its properties, and then closes the connection.
public void CreatePgSqlConnection(string myConnString)
{
  PgSqlConnection pgConnection = new PgSqlConnection(myConnString);
  pgConnection.Open();
  MessageBox.Show("ServerVersion: " + pgConnection.ServerVersion
    + "\nState: " + pgConnection.State.ToString());
  pgConnection.Close();
}
Public Sub CreatePgSqlConnection(myConnString As String)
  Dim pgConnection As New PgSqlConnection(myConnString)
  pgConnection.Open()
  MessageBox.Show("ServerVersion: " + pgConnection.ServerVersion _
    + ControlChars.Cr + "State: " + pgConnection.State.ToString())
  pgConnection.Close()
End Sub
