Example

In This Topic
    Open() Method
    In This Topic
    Opens a Oracle connection with the property settings specified by the ConnectionString.
    Syntax
    'Declaration

    Public Overloads Overrides Sub Open()
    public override void Open()
    Remarks
    The OracleConnection draws an open connection from the connection pool if one is available. Otherwise, it establishes a new connection to the data source.

    Note: If the OracleConnection goes out of scope, the connection it represents does not close automatically. Therefore, you must explicitly close the connection by calling Close.

    Opening an open connection does nothing.

    Example
    The following example creates a OracleConnection, opens it, displays some of its properties, and then closes the connection.
    public void CreateOracleConnection(string myConnString)
    {
      OracleConnection myConnection = new OracleConnection(myConnString);
      myConnection.Open();
      MessageBox.Show("ServerVersion: " + myConnection.ServerVersion
        + "\nState: " + myConnection.State.ToString());
      myConnection.Close();
    }
    Public Sub CreateOracleConnection(myConnString As String)
      Dim myConnection As New OracleConnection(myConnString)
      myConnection.Open()
      MessageBox.Show("ServerVersion: " + myConnection.ServerVersion _
        + ControlChars.Cr + "State: " + myConnection.State.ToString())
      myConnection.Close()
    End Sub
