Unless activated, dbForge Documenter works on the trial basis for 30 days. When the trial expires, dbForge Documenter must be activated with a purchased activation key.
How to check how much time is left in a trial period?
Each time the tool is launched in trial mode, the Activation dialog appears, showing the number of days left in the trial period. The remaining trial days are also displayed in the upper-right corner of the tool. The trial expiry date can also be checked by going to the Help menu at the top and selecting About.
dbForge Documenter can be activated either online or offline.
This activation method requires Internet connection.
To activate dbForge Documenter online:
1. If your trial of dbForge Documenter has expired, click Buy Now on the pop-up window that appears on launch. If you have already retrieved your activation key, click Activate.
Alternatively, go to the Help menu and click Activate Product.
2. The Activation window opens. You should input the long activation key from your email that was sent to you after the purchase, but not the license number in the format: XXXX-XXX-XXX.
3. Click Activate.

If you haven’t received the e-mail with the activation key, check your Junk/Spam/Bulk folders.
You can always retrieve your activation key at your Customer Portal page.
Offline activation helps activate dbForge Documenter from the Devart website. This method is recommended when online activation fails.
To activate dbForge Documenter offline:
1. In the Activation window, click Manual Activation.
2. Copy the activation request text via Copy to Clipboard.

Save the activation request text to a text file by clicking Save to File.
3. Open the Manual Product Activation page on the Devart website, paste the copied text in the text box, and click Download license. The license file with the .lic extension is downloaded to your computer.
4. Go back to the Activation window of dbForge Documenter, click Load license, specify the location of the downloaded .lic file, and click Open.
You can activate Documenter using the command line:
1. Open Command Prompt.
2. Navigate to the folder where the executable Documenter file is located.
3. Run a command with the following syntax:
documenter /activate /key:<activation_key>

You need to enter your activation key after the colon symbol.
