How to activate the Express Edition

Last modified: November 26, 2024

SQL Complete is distributed as a single executable file, with different editions activated using a license key. Since there is no standalone file for the Express Edition, some users may encounter challenges transitioning to the Express Edition after the trial period ends.

User example

A user shared the following experience: “I downloaded the trial version of SQL Complete, but it expired two weeks after installation and now requires activation. I’d like to switch to the free version and continue using it while my company finalizes the purchase. I read on your website that you have the free Express Edition of SQL Complete. How can I get it?”

Transitioning to the Express Edition

1. Install the free trial version.

Download and install the Enterprise Edition trial of SQL Complete from the Devart website. During the trial period, enjoy all the advanced features of the Enterprise Edition, which go beyond the functionality offered by the Express Edition.

2. Switch to the Express Edition.

  • Purchase the full version
  • Activate the product if you’ve already purchased it
  • Use the Express Edition

Select Use Express to switch to the free version.

To access advanced SQL Complete functionality, you can upgrade the Express Edition to a higher edition at any time by activating it with a license key.

Activating the Express Edition anytime after the trial expires

1. Open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

2. In the trial expiration notification that will appear, select Use Express.

3. SSMS will reload, and the Express Edition of SQL Complete will be activated.
