How to customize the environment

The environment provides many useful shortcut key combinations to speed up your work. Default shortcut settings are similar to shortcuts in Visual Studio. Default keyboard mapping schema can be changed to the one similar to Visual C++ 6.0 or to Delphi. There are some more keyboard mapping schemas. Moreover, you can assign your own shortcut keys to every action.

Shortcuts can be changed on the Keyboard, Environment, Options dialog box.

To access this dialog box:

  1. In the Tools menu, click Options. The dialog box appears.
  2. Expand the Environment section, and click Keyboard.

Choosing a keyboard mapping schema

You can select a keyboard mapping schema from the Apply the following additional keyboard mapping scheme drop-down list on the Keyboard page of the Environment section in the Options dialog box.

Determining and removing the shortcut key combination for a command

To determine or remove the shortcut key combination for a command perform the following actions.

  1. On the Keyboard, Environment, Options dialog box, enter the command name without spaces or a part of it in the Show commands containing box.
  2. In the list, select the correct command.
  3. Shortcuts for selected command drop-down list now contains the assigned key combination for the command if any combinations exist. You can view them in the list.
  4. If you want to remove the combination, select a command in the list, and click the Remove button.

Assigning custom shortcut key combination for a command

To assign a shortcut key combination for a command:

  1. On the Keyboard, Environment, Options dialog box, enter the command name without spaces or a part of it, in the Show commands containing text box.
  2. In the list, select the correct command.
  3. On the Use new shortcut in drop-down list, select the feature area where you want to use the shortcut.
  4. Place the cursor in the Press shortcut keys box, and press the key combination to set for the selected command. The combination will be displayed in the box.
  5. Click Assign.
