US National Drug Code (FDA NDC) generator

The US National Drug Code (FDA NDC) generator creates valid and structured National Drug Codes (NDCs) to identify pharmaceutical products within the United States. The NDC is a unique, universal identifier maintained by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for drugs approved for human use.

Matching rules

The generator can be assigned to a column that matches any of the following rules:

  • The column name starts with ‘National’, then goes ‘Drug’, preceded or followed by any or no characters, and ends with ‘Code’, regardless of the table name.
  • The column name starts with ‘FDA’, then goes ‘NDC’, preceded or followed by any or no characters, and ends with ‘Code’, regardless of the table name.
  • The column name starts with ‘FDA’ and ends with ‘NDC’, with any or no characters in between, regardless of the table name.
