Semicolon insertion

Last modified: May 26, 2022

SQL Complete can insert missing semicolons after each statement in a query.

To insert missing semicolons, do one of the following:

  • Navigate to the SQL Complete menu and select Insert Semicolons.
  • Right-click in the query window and click Insert Semicolons.
  • Press Ctrl+B, then Ctrl+C.

Let’s take the following procedure as an example:

CREATE OR ALTER PROCEDURE Person.EmailAddressID
  @EmailAddress VARCHAR(30) = '%'
AS
  DECLARE @EmailAddressList VARCHAR(30)
  SELECT
    email.EmailAddressID AS EmailID
  FROM Person.EmailAddress email
  WHERE email.EmailAddress LIKE @EmailAddress;
GO
EXECUTE Person.EmailAddressID @EmailAddress = 'adriana%'
GO

The first query contains missing semicolons in the DECLARE and EXECUTE statements.

Before

Semicolons are automatically inserted after applying the Insert Semicolons command.

After

As you can see, this feature analyzes all statements in the script and inserts missing semicolons.

Note

You can undo any action by pressing Ctrl+Z.
