Monitoring SQL Performance

To start monitoring SQL performance:

  1. In Object Explorer, right-click a connection, or a database.
  2. Point to Monitor, and then click Show Monitor.

  3. The dbForge Monitor window opens. dbForge Monitor allows monitoring SQL performance with help of 7 tabs containing versatile metrics and statistics to detect and eliminate performance issues and bottlenecks.

Overview

The Overview tab consists of a collection of metrics for versatile monitoring of SQL Server performance in real time. The tab allows to detect at a glance the volumes of CPU and Memory Utilitzation, monitor disc activity, detect the number of waiting tasks, deadlocks, etc. For a complete list of metrics and their descriptions, refer to the Overview, Monitor Window topic.

Data IO

The Data IO tab contains statistics of the read and write operations for each database file. For a complete description of the tab, refer to the Data IO, Monitor Window topic.

Databases

The Databases tab of dbForge Monitor provides details about databases on the monitored SQL Server instance. For a complete description of the tab, refer to the Databases, Monitor Window topic.

Wait Stats

With the Wait Stats tab shows the list of waiting tasks encountered by execution threads because resources required for the request fulfillment were busy or not available.

Top Queries

The Top Queries tab lists the most expensive queries executed on the server. The tool also shows the query text and query profiling data that can help you to rewrite a query in the most productive way. For a complete description of the tab, refer to the Top Queries, Monitor Window topic.

Sessions
