Work with custom instructions in the chat

Custom instructions are reusable rules that define how AI Assistant responds to your requests. For example, you can specify preferred formatting, terminology, writing style, or other requirements.

AI Assistant stores custom instructions in the dbforge.md file. You can create and edit this file manually or ask AI Assistant to add instructions for you. You can also share the file with your team so everyone follows the same rules.

Create custom instructions

To create custom instructions, use one of these ways:

• Create a dbforge.md file manually and add your instructions to it.
• Ask AI Assistant in the chat to add an instruction. The Assistant creates or updates the dbforge.md file.

The dbforge.md file is stored in the following folder:

C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Devart\dbForge\AI.

Save suggested instructions

AI Assistant can identify preferences or requirements in your conversations that may be useful for future requests. When it identifies a reusable rule, it may suggest saving the rule to the dbforge.md file. AI Assistant saves the suggested instruction only after you approve it.

Apply custom instructions

AI Assistant automatically reads the custom instructions from the dbforge.md file. The instructions are added to the context and applied starting with your next requests in the chat.

For example, suppose the dbforge.md file contains the following instruction:

When you submit a request, AI Assistant follows this instruction and generates its response.

Edit instructions

You can add, modify, or remove instructions in the dbforge.md file using any text editor. Changes apply to your subsequent requests in the chat.
